The WINTER Landscapes WAX MONOPRINT Bars (Printmaking Bars) are pigment-rich wax bars designed for two ways to play: use them dry for bold mark-making and wax resist on paper, or warm them for buttery plate monoorints, blending, and brush-painted wax layers.
This 7-color Winter Landscapes starter set was curated for moody, earthy mixing and layered mixed media work, especially alongside Mineral Wash Inks and MELT + MIX Confetti Cakes.
Meet my Wax Monoprint Bars (Printmaking Bars), a versatile wax tool made for artists who love to layer. You can use these bars straight on paper like a drawing crayon/pastel and texture tool, then paint over with inks or watercolor for wax resist and atmospheric buildup. And when you’re ready to take it further, a little gentle heat turns them into a smooth, movable wax paint for plate play, monoprints, ghost pulls, transfers, and melt-mixing.
These are not made with encaustic medium (so they’re not meant to behave like traditional encaustic paint). Designed specifically for monoprint + printmaking play on a heated surface, they’re formulated to be melted, moved, and transferred—giving you that beautiful waxy drag, transparent layering, and unexpected texture that makes printmaking with wax so addictive.
The formula for the monoprint bar is slightly different from my original PIGMENT BARS, it incorporates a blend of natural waxes which create a harder wax paint bar but still lays down vibrant beautiful color.
Winter Landscapes is my moody + grounded palette: deep berry woods, evergreen shadows, warm stone neutrals, and night-sky depth.
Each bar is poured as a single color, so you can build your own mixes on the plate or paper and maintain control of the color.
Use them on a heated plate for bold marks and soft transitions, then layer them with ink washes for depth—or use them dry on paper for resist and drawing effects.

How to Use
- Wax resist: rub/draw/scribble on paper, then paint over with inks or watercolor for resist effects
- Heated plate monoprints: warm your plate, draw/drag the bar directly, blend, then pull a print
- Layer + lift: build thin layers, scrape back, and pull a second/ghost print
- Mix on the heated plate: blend two or more bars to create custom neutrals and stormy transitions
- Collage layering: add wax marks as a warm ground, then reheat gently if you want to soften/settle layers
Tips
- Start with gentle heat—you don’t need high temperatures to get beautiful movement.
- For softer blends, warm the bar slightly and blend on the plate with a brayer or scraper.
- Paint and make marks with a quilting iron or heat tool
- For crisp marks, use the bar with a warmer plate and pull quickly.
- Store finished wax-on-paper work with parchment/glassine interleaving and avoid leaving work in hot environments.
